SHOKETTA（ショケッタ）
沖縄県那覇市出身。5歳よりピアノを始め、
幼少期から音楽に親しむ。
13歳の頃より米軍基地チャペルで演奏活動を開始。
沖縄にいながら本場のゴスペル音楽に触れた経験は、後のソウル、R&B、ジャズへとつながる音楽的基盤を築いた。
沖縄県内のホテルやライブハウスで活動後、2001年に上京し、
約4年間ボイストレーニングを受ける。
その間、2004年にバークリー音楽大学の奨学金を受賞し、
2007年に同大学へ進学。2009年よりニューヨークへ拠点を
移す。
2010年、ジャズシンガーとしてアメリカの携帯電話会社ハナセルのイメージレディに選出。現地での出会いをきっかけに、
2012年、ニューヨークにてアルバム制作プロジェクトが始動する。
ベーシストであり、ニューヨークの音楽シーンを代表する
リッチー・グッズをプロデューサーに迎え、クラレンス・ペン（ドラム）、アンディー・エズリン（ピアノ）、ノゾミ・ヤマグチ（ギター）ら、世界で活躍するミュージシャンとレコーディングを行う。2014年7月、デビューアルバム『MY SOUL』を
全国リリース。
2021年秋には、創業100年を超える越野建設株式会社（東京）の「音学マンション倶楽部アンバサダー」に就任。
現在は沖縄を拠点に、シンガー・ソングライターとして国内外で活動。ジャズ、ソウル、R&Bを軸に、ピアノ弾き語りやバンド編成など、さまざまなスタイルでステージを展開している。また、グラミー受賞作品ピアニスト、チップ・クロフォードとの楽曲制作にも取り組んでいる。
近年は、自身のルーツである沖縄の音楽にもあらためて向き合い、沖縄の伝統音楽や民謡、三線の基礎を学んでいる。
伝統を尊重し、まずその背景や音楽をきちんと学ぶことを大切にしながら、これまで自身が培ってきたジャズ、ソウル、R&B、
ゴスペル、ポップスを基盤とする音楽の中に、三線の音色や沖縄音楽の要素をどのように取り入れていけるのかを探求している。
SHOKETTA

The versatile Shoketta Oshiro hails from Okinawa, Japan, where she began her incredible musical
journey at the age of 13. Inspired by American gospel music she had heard and sung at a church on the
Kadena U.S. Air Force base, she soon assimilated the soulful elements of gospel into her musical
vocabulary.
At the age of 19 she began singing professionally, eventually moving to Tokyo, where she studied
with a vocal coach. In 2003 she participated in the "Berklee in L.A." summer program and was
awarded a scholarship to Berklee College in Boston in 2007.
After Berklee, she moved to New York and was selected as a jazz singing image lady for the AT&T
American mobile phone "Hana Cell.”
Working with seasoned New York jazz artists soon led to an
album project with bassist Richie Goods, drummer Clarence Penn, keyboard artist Andy Ezrin, guitarist
Nozomi Yamaguchi, percussionist Daniel Sadownick, sax man Stacy Dillard and violinist Francis Liu.
In 2014 she released her first album, "My Soul" which was produced by Richie Goods. It is an
amalgam of jazz, soul and gospel, along with contemporary influences unique to her singing style.
Currently she is living and working in Okinawa while studying orchestra and symphony through
Harvard University’s online program. Most recently she has been appointed as "Soundproof
Mansion/Apartment Ambassador" of Koshino Construction Co, Ltd, which has a history of more than
100 years in Tokyo, Japan.
The rich timbre and subtle emotional depth of Shoketta's voice never fails to move the discerning
listener.

Recent Years
In recent years, Shoketta has continued to perform and
create music from her home base in Okinawa.
Drawing on her background in jazz, soul, R&B, gospel and pop, she works in a variety of settings, from solo and piano-vocal performances to full-band projects.
In 2025, she spent six months based on Miyako Island, performing regularly throughout her stay.
More recently, Shoketta has been reconnecting with the music of her Okinawan roots, studying the foundations of traditional Okinawan music, folk songs, and the sanshin.
With respect for the tradition and an emphasis on learning its musical and cultural foundations, she is exploring how the sound of the sanshin and elements of Okinawan music can become part of her own musical language, rooted in jazz, soul, R&B, gospel and pop.
