SHOKETTA（ショケッタ）
沖縄県那覇市出身。5歳よりピアノを始め、幼少期から音楽に親しむ。
13歳の頃より米軍基地チャペルで演奏活動を開始。沖縄にいながら本場のゴスペル音楽に触れた経験は、後のソウル、R&B、ジャズへとつながる音楽的基盤を築いた。
沖縄県内のホテルやライブハウスで活動後、2001年に上京し、約4年間ボイストレーニングを受ける。その間、2004年にバークリー音楽大学の奨学金を受賞し、2007年に同大学へ進学。2009年よりニューヨークへ拠点を移す。
2010年、ジャズシンガーとしてアメリカの携帯電話会社ハナセルのイメージレディに選出。現地での出会いをきっかけに、2012年、ニューヨークにてアルバム制作プロジェクトが始動する。
ベーシストであり、ニューヨークの音楽シーンを代表するリッチー・グッズをプロデューサーに迎え、クラレンス・ペン（ドラム）、アンディー・エズリン（ピアノ）、ノゾミ・ヤマグチ（ギター）ら、世界で活躍するミュージシャンとレコーディングを行う。2014年7月、デビューアルバム『MY SOUL』を全国リリース。
2021年秋には、創業100年を超える越野建設株式会社（東京）の「音学マンション倶楽部アンバサダー」に就任。
現在は沖縄を拠点に、シンガー・ソングライターとして国内外で活動。ジャズ、ソウル、R&Bを軸に、ピアノ弾き語りやバンド編成など、さまざまなスタイルでステージを展開している。また、グラミー受賞作品ピアニスト、チップ・クロフォードとの楽曲制作にも取り組んでいる。
2025年には、自身の音楽活動と創作プロジェクトを運営・発展させる活動拠点として「SoulWave Studio」を設立。演奏活動、楽曲制作、ライブ企画、芸術研究、国際共同プロジェクトなど、音楽を中心とした幅広い活動を展開している。
近年はエレキベースの習得とともに、自身の故郷である沖縄の伝統楽器・三線の研究にも力を注ぐ。沖縄の文化的背景を大切にしながら、これまで培ってきたジャズやソウルの感性と三線を結び、新たな音楽表現の可能性を探求している。
現在、沖縄と海外を音楽でつなぐ「Sanshin × Jazz」を軸とした国際プロジェクトを進行中。沖縄の歌や文化を次の世代、そして世界へ届けることを目指し、2026年から2028年にかけた創作・研究・国際共同制作の準備を進めている。
SHOKETTA
Born in Naha, Okinawa, Shoketta began playing the piano at the age of five and grew up surrounded by music.
At thirteen, she began performing at a chapel on a U.S. military base in Okinawa. Her early exposure to authentic gospel music laid the foundation for the soul, R&B, and jazz influences that would later shape her musical identity.
After performing at hotels and live music venues throughout Okinawa, she moved to Tokyo in 2001, where she undertook four years of intensive vocal training. In 2004, she received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music and enrolled at the college in 2007. She relocated to New York in 2009.
In 2010, Shoketta was selected as the brand ambassador for HanaCell, a U.S.-based mobile service provider, representing the company as a jazz vocalist. Connections she formed in New York led to the launch of her album project in 2012.
Produced by acclaimed bassist Richie Goods, a prominent figure in the New York music scene, the album featured internationally recognized musicians including Clarence Penn on drums, Andy Ezrin on piano, and Nozomi Yamaguchi on guitar. Her debut album, MY SOUL, was released nationwide in Japan in July 2014.
In the autumn of 2021, she was appointed an ambassador for the Ongaku Mansion Club, an initiative operated by Tokyo-based Koshino Construction Co., Ltd., a company with a history spanning more than a century.
Now based in Okinawa, Shoketta performs in Japan and internationally as a singer-songwriter. Rooted in jazz, soul, and R&B, her work ranges from intimate piano-vocal performances to full-band settings. She is also collaborating on original music with Chip Crawford, a pianist featured on Grammy-winning recordings.
In 2025, she founded SoulWave Studio as the creative home for developing and managing her music and artistic projects. Its activities encompass live performance, songwriting and music production, concert planning, artistic research, and international creative collaborations.
In recent years, Shoketta has expanded her musicianship through the electric bass while deepening her study of the sanshin, Okinawa’s traditional three-stringed instrument. Honoring the cultural roots of Okinawa, she is exploring new musical expressions that connect the sanshin with the jazz and soul sensibilities she has cultivated throughout her career.
She is currently developing an international project centered on Sanshin × Jazz, connecting Okinawa with the wider world through music. With the aim of sharing Okinawan songs and culture with future generations and global audiences, she is preparing a series of creative, research-based, and international collaborative projects spanning 2026 to 2028.
